This Trio consists of piano, drums, and sax/clarinet, and all three band members do vocals. While their repertoire does include easy-listening standards from the 1950's and '60's, quite a bit consists of songs from the 1920's on up through the Swing Era. Homebased in eastern North Carolina, they do tour very widely, with much of their work in Raleigh-Durham, and in Fayetteville-Ft. Bragg areas. The group has had several write-ups in local newspapers, and several state senators, along with a North Carolina member of the US House of Representatives have given them very good reviews. Founded in 1979 by Frank Messina, and currently led by that wonderful keyboardist, Stephen Fry, this solid band plays the music of the great bands of the Swing Era and everything else right on up to the newest Millenium hits by todays top composers and arrangers. Based in the North West Arkansas area (Fayetteville) the Cat'z Meow performs swing and popular variety dance classics of the last 70 years of the millinneum, in three part harmony vocals reminisent of the Andrew Sisters and the Manhattan Transfer. Their instrumentation consists of piano, keyboard, bass, drums and cross-key harmonica. With two new CDs now available on the Monogram Records label titled "Swing Jump Jive and Jazz along with some other Way Cool Stuff" and "Christmas 2000 with the Cat'z Meow". Although mostly performing for "grown ups" the ensemble relates very well with the younger swing audiences which makes them Purrrfect for mixed groups such as wedding receptions, community events, Casinos and cruises. They also do a very popular and funfilled WWII USO Canteen Show with all of the favorites from that era.
