[ The United Women's Orchestra ]
Since their premiere during the "European Women in Music Congress" in 1994, this only all-women bigband in Europe (18 musicians from 4 countries) has appeared regularly in concert and at festivals in Germany and Holland. Led by Christina Fuchs (Cologne, Germany ) and Hazel Leach, (Arnhem, The Netherlands) the band plays an exclusively original repertoire, composed by the two bandleaders. Their differing backgrounds provide for a wide variety of musical styles- from modern Jazz and free improvisation to folk melody, and from traditional bigband Swing to contemporary rhythms. The collective approach of the band is very much in evidence during live concerts: each member makes her own personal contribution to the performance. The results are clearly visible on stage. The total involvement and obvious enjoyment of the players infects audiences with the sheer fun of it. Their first CD was released in March 1996, receiving good reviews in the international Jazz media. For much more information than we can give here, please be sure to visit their Website shown below, or better yet, contact them directly.

[ Unknown Army ]
In the spring of 2000, Bob Boncore and Alex Neely decided that they wanted to start a rock band together. Bob had been playing guitar for a while, but had recently bought a drum set and wanted to stick with that. Alex wanted to play bass and sing, but didn't know how to play bass yet. After jamming with each other for a few months, Bob and Alex started to write songs together, with Bob writing the music, and Alex writing the lyrics. After Alex had bought a bass, and took lessons for a while, Unknown Army was just about ready to start, all that was left was a drummer since Bob had decided to switch to Guitar. Greg Westerduin joined the band in the summer of 2001, and they jammed and did one show with that line up, but Greg left the band after two months, causing Bob and Alex to take a break as well. In December, the three of them re-formed the band, but this time having Bob do the songwriting, play guitar, and sing, and Alex play bass, and Greg on the Drums. With tons of new material, Unknown Army played shows in there hometown, and then in the Summer of 2002, they decided to record there first LP, Unknown Army. The band has a strong stage presence, with a sound that ranges from Alternative, to Pop-Rock. Homebased in Glen Rock, NJ (Suburb of NYC), the group will travel.

[ University of London Big Band ]
The University Of London (UL) Big Band, is a high quality Student Big Band playing in London, UK. We have a great swinging sound, playing many classic swing charts from the Basie, Goodman, Ellington and Glenn Miller repertoires (amongst others), as well as more modern Big Band arrangements. The UL Jazz Society, promoting Jazz music in London, and the UL Big Band are unique as groups formed and ran by young people, for young people, without any funding grant. The The band was founded in 2002 by the very talented young musical director, Richard Lanyi, at just 20 years of age, and utilises keen student musicians from the age of 18. Unlike other University and College bands, the University of London does not contain a music faculty in any of its constituent colleges and universities, and so the Jazz society and Band, for many students is the only available opportunity for Jazz Education and playing.
Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in our Society and Band for any reason, whether you wish to join, help, correspond or book us for your event.
