TOP   [ The Billy May Orch. ]
One of the great names in the world of big band music, arranger / conductor / trumpeter Billy May formed the orchestra in the early-1950s after the success of his first major album on Capitol Records. Billy arranged one of the most original dance music libraries ever written, resulting in a string of great hit original recordings, including "Charmaine", "Unforgettable", "When Your Lover Has Gone", "Diane", "Fat-Man Boogie", and his famous theme song "Lean Baby". These established the band at the top of the list of great postwar big bands. Billy turned the operation of the band over to fellow bandleader Ray Anthony in 1954. Since the late-'80s, Ray has engaged a number of top musicians as conductors musical directors, including saxophonist Pat Longo, Jazz trumpet great Buddy Childers, and the late trumpeter Rudy Scaffidi. Sadly, our founder and musical mentor Billy May passed away January 24th, 2004 at age 87, after over 60 years as a legend and star in the music business. However, the band continues to, keeping his unique musical legacy alive. Now based on the West Coast, the band is available for engagements and tours world-wide. Recent tours have included cruises, including several appearances aboard Cunard Lines' world famous liner QE2 during its annual "Big Bands at Sea" program. The Billy May Orchestra is a Ray Anthony Enterprise. For further information on their U.S.A. and World Tour schedules or to arrange a booking, please -

And this gives them a wonderfully warm and thoroughly enjoyable sound. They have a large book of music and can vary the music for the proper occasion. This wonderful 14 piece swinging band plays authentic "charts" of the music from Goodman, Shaw, Herman, Basie, Ellington, Dorsey, Zentner et.al. TOP   [ Merengada ]
While this wonderfully exciting 10 piece Latin band is based in London, they have toured much of the world, winning loyal fans wherever they have appeared. Merengada is the U.K.'s only specialist Merengue band - though they also play excellent Salsa! Merengue music comes originally from the Dominican Republic, but is now popular throughout Latin America, as is Salsa, and both now have a great following in the rest of the world too, from Europe to Japan. To find out just how good this band really is, check out their TOP-10 CD version of "No Woman No Cry" and the merengue about Carnival in London "En Verano".
Here's just a small sampling of what the Press has said about Merengada:
..... "the UK's top Latin Dance band" -- "Casa Latina"
"Probably the most danceable Latin band in the UK " -- Vic Suarez, "The Salsamaniac" magazine
"If you can sit still while the contagious merengue rhythms blast past, you'd better consult your doctor because you must be nearly dead.....No woman No Cry is Hot, Hot, Hot Salsa. Brilliant playing by all band members- Bob Marley would have approved of their arrangement." -- "Dance 4 U" Magazine
"The UK's answer to "Orquesta de la Luz" ' -- Eddie Rodriguez, MIDEM, New York

TOP   [ The Midland Youth Jazz Orch. ]
The band has performed all over the U.K., in Russia, Holland, Germany, Switzerland and in the USA. There would have been many more performances abroad had the group been able to attract some sort of funding.

The MIDLAND YOUTH JAZZ ORCHESTRAis considered by many to be the premier youth jazz orchestra in the U.K. As I write the group exists entirely without any sort of sponsorship, surviving on the generosity and goodwill of parents, members and receipts from concerts. There are around 60 young people in the organisation aged from 9 years to 25 years.

Those who have guested with the band include ROB MCCONNELL, BILL WATROUS, BILL BERRY, PHIL WILSON, LANNY MORGAN, BOBBY SHEW, STAN TRACEY, KENNY BAKER, DON LUSHER, MARK NIGHTINGALE (ex-MYJO), IAN MCDOUGALL. BOB FLORENCE, is one of the band's supporters.

TOP   [ Mighty Meaty Swing Kings ]
Tim Tedeman and Mark Standriff co-lead The Mighty Meaty Swing Kings, - a band born in Toledo, Ohio in the spring of 1998. Since it's conception, the MMSK has grown from a fledgling baby Swing band into a monstrous force of awesome power in the Midwest swing scene. The interesting name derives from the following:
Mighty: from "Thor" the Norse god of thunder.
Meaty: as in well-endowed, heavy.
Swing: as in "Hey baby, do you want to Swing with me?
Kings: from the paranoid delusions some of the members harbor.
The MMSK would love to play at your party or gathering, and you had better believe they will have everyone's toes tapping and hands clapping and out on the dance floor all night long. For pure excitement and joy, this is THE band. Did you know that they were voted "Lake Erie West Best Rock/Alternative Band," and "Best Instrumental Band of 1999!" If you would like them to swing at your special function, --civic, corporate or private party, wedding, and such, get in touch with Mark or Tim today:

TOP   [ Tom Milo Big Band ]
This 17 piece Big Band is based in Northwest Indiana (Laporte, In.) Since they play many dances, the music crosses all the well known big bands, Miller, Dorsey, Shaw, Basie, and Ellington. While their concert book tends toward more big band jazz featuring Buddy Rich, Basie & Stan Kenton, they never-the-less have music for just about every occasion imaginable. The band has been in existence 30 years and several of the sidemen are original members. Tom Milo was the drummer with the great 'Dukes Of Dixieland' orch., and Fran Milo, Tom's wife, is the band's wonderful vocalist. This band has earned your confidence. They _will_ make your function a huge success. There is just no doubt about it.

The band is available for bookings in the Northwest Indiana area, Chicago, Wisconsin and Michigan. Each year the band goes on a Caribbean cruise through Costa's Victoria (and you can go with them: Jan. 27 - Feb. 3, 2002).

Moonlight Swing is a Swing Era (1935-1949) full size, authentic Big Band celebrating the exciting and energetic music of that period in American culture. The band, numbering 25 members, includes vocalists and displays the showmanship that made the Big Bands of the Swing Era so popular. Their authenticity is not limited to the music played, but includes the attire worn by the members during performances. The combined talent and experience of musicians, led by Trumpet/Cornetist Don Treco make Moonlight Swing a very unique musical extravaganza! Because the band is comprised of volunteer musicians and is self-supporting, donations are welcome to offset expenses. TOP   [ Mora's Modern Rhythmists ] This 15-piece group, led by pianist Dean Mora (and featuring the vocals of Kayre Morrison and Damon Kirsche), specializes in charts of the late 1920s to mid-1930s, with the emphasis on the great early swing and "pre-swing" tunes of that era, including transcriptions of recordings by Bennie Moten, Chick Webb, Luis Russell, Teddy Hill, Fletcher Henderson, Duke Ellington, and Benny Goodman circa 1934-35. In fact, the band doesn't play anything past 1937, so it certainly sets them apart from the other big bands in the area. This group has established itself as one of Los Angeles' most popular bands among the "New Swing" crowd. They recently released their 4th CD entitled "Goblin Market", a tribute to Big Band-era arranger Spud Murphy. They also have a small-group unit, Mora's Modern Swingtet, that specializes in late 1930s/early 1940s charts originally recorded by the Gramercy Five, Clambake Seven, the Ellingtonians, and the John Kirby Orchestra. TOP   [ Gap Mangione: The Big Band ]
Is anyone better known in American Popular Music than these two brothers, - Gap and Chuck Mangione? What a terrific musical background. This band with its compliment of three trumpets, three trombones, four saxophones, rhythm section and vocalists, includes in its repertoire arrangements from the swing era bands through to the more modern big bands and to a cross section of the best in popular music. However, the band's particular feature is the music of Gap Mangione and Chuck Mangione. Most of their music is well known, but some, which has not been recorded until now, could only be heard in performances by the group, [i.e., Chuck's "Rochester, My Sweet Home," composed for Rochester's sesquicentennial, Gap's "My Favorite Dream" and "Calypso For Janet", and Gap's arrangement of "Take Me Out To The Ball Game"]. The emphasis is definitely on quality, style and variety. This is one great band that adds glamour, musical style and sophistication to any dance, festival, and corporate, private, or civic event. Also, keep in mind that Gap's long experience allows him to work with smaller groups from the band for those special parties where only a piano, or trio, on up, is required. The Mellvids Bigband is an enthousiastic group of about 20 musicians from Merelbeke/Melle near Gent, playing music of not only the recognized giants like Glenn Miller, Count Basie and alikes, but also of the local (Belgian) fine bigband and swing composers, like Bert Paige (alias for Albert Lepage), member of the legendary "Ramblers", who wrote music, stimulating as much to dance as that of the well-known masters. That this kind of music still appeals to people is proven by the fact that "The Mellvids" have about 15 performances per year, with success ! TOP   [ Mr. Lucky Swing Syndicate ]
The ensemble, formed in 1999 and based out of Milwaukee, WI, fills the niche between small combo and big band swing, with a "Rat Pack" approach to Swing and ballroom dance music from all decades. The standards of the 1940s are covered, as is the Swing of today, but the band stops along the way to pick up the Swing tunes of the years in-between that some how got labeled "Pop". The intent is to be more exciting and accessible than the image often associated with the traditional big band, but to avoid the raunchiness included in much of modern swing. Fun in a club appearance, yet also appropriate for any family or corporate event. We also offer a "Lucky-Lite" for smaller gatherings that require a smaller sound. Personnel includes 4 music educators, 3 performance degrees on their respective instruments, one former arranger for a major music publishing house, plus a lawyer, a bank vice president and vice president for investments at a major investment firm. The roster has remained stable since the band's inception. (Exception: original alto player moved to Boston to study his instrument at Berklee.)
