TOP    [ J Street Stompers ]
Founded in the early 90s by saxophonist Charlie Hubel, the Jumpers have spent most of the last decade honing their chops in clubs, halls, andballrooms in the mid-Atlantic. Theyre deeply rooted in the swing-dance circuit that has given birth to the retro-swing resurgence. Today, the JStreet Jumpers are one of the East Coasts most popular swing dance bands. Theyve garnered the respect of the Washington music industry as well, evidenced by two 1998 Washington Area Music Association (WAMA) "wammie" awards: Best Jazz - Traditional Duo/Group, and Best Jazz - Traditional Female Vocalist for Marianna Previti. Mariannas sultry, momma-wouldnt-approve vocals are complemented by the crooning of pianist Arthur Gerstein, whose energy and humor zing the crowd with fun as he works his way through R&Band boogie woogie. Behind Arthur and Marianna is one rock solid, jumping, swinging, and shouting band.

Jazz singer Johnny Favourite will take you back to the age of style, class and panache, with a show that has been featured in the Dec. 1997 issue of Swingtime magazine, and that has also been nominated for 4 East Coast Music Awards. Johnny has an over-riding passion for the swinging, jazzy standards of Chet Baker, Benny Goodman and even ol' Blue Eyes himself. More and more often in Halifax, he takes the stage - with a little big band and "the most powerful bubble machine east of Montreal" - to sing those old songs himself. This wonderful, small big-band of talented musicians has carved out a weekly gig at 'The Tickle Trunk', a Spring Garden Road bar, and is drawing loyal audiences of between 100 and 200 per show, and they are already the subject of some record-label courtship. With credentials like that, you know they will make your function a real success.

Whether he is leading his own big band, the trombone section of his local community band, or his latest radio show, Johnny seems to have been born to lead. And his present goal is to lead the current resurgence of the bigband to the peak of its popularity. His love of music shows whether he is directing, performing, teaching, listening or talking about it on the radio. His touring with the great Si Zentner in the 60's merely whet his appetite for performing. And now Johnny's back and ready to take to the road with his own group of premiere musicians, some having performed with the likes of Stan Kenten, Les Elgart, Glen Miller and Doc Severinson. Performing for parties, ballroom dances, live broadcasts or enjoying record attendances at their Big Band Nights, one thing is in common, the crowd loves Johnny. And Johnny loves his dance crowds so much he's created a brand new line dance called "The Shim Sham" with Big Band Night's own dance instructor, Tom Tumbusch. Exciting dancing, talented musicians, splendid vocals by Deborah Hunter and John Cashin are all rolled into one Big Band Night of entertainment brought to you by the Johnny Mack Super Big Band, The Mack Pack.

TOP    [ The Jazz Visitors ]
The Jazz Visitors is the newest addition to the jazz scene and beyond; composed of four talented, seasoned and driven musicians who had banded together in their affirmation of love for music. The band is composed of Elise Eclar, A-one vocalist whose style has evolved from listening to her idol Ella Fitzgerald scat and croon to create her own distinctive artistry; Ben Casquejo, pianist par excellence whose flair for excellence can give seasoned pianists a run for their money; Boy Hernan, superior bassist cum vocalist whose musicality and showmanship create perfect harmony as he jazzes you up with his raspy voice and matching bass licks; and Gary Garcia, drummer whose keenness on rhythm keeps the group on stable ground. Well-traveled around the world on land and sea, and had played individually for Presidents, Royalties and state figures; The Jazz Visitors recently concluded a stint at the 1st International Jazzfest held at the Harbour Square in Roxas Boulevard, attended by more than 300 local artists and participated in by famous international celebs like Kevyn Lettau and Eumir Deodato. This group is a gem of a treat and a treat worth your while.

TOP    [ Jump City Jazz Orchestra ]
For the past 10 years, the Philadelphia based 'Jump City Jazz Orchestra' has faithfully recreated the magic and excitement of over sixty years of big band and swing music. Our roots take us back to the traditional big band sounds of the World War II-era bands like Glenn Miller and Woody Herman. Our development expands our horizons through the concert pieces popularized by the Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich and Stan Kenton Orchestras. Our energy brings us to the modern-day jump swing sound of the Brian Setzer Orchestra and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.. Our Style leads us to the vocal classics of the Rat Pack, Ella Fitzgerald, Doris Day, Louis Prima and Ray Charles.

The next time you are hosting a wedding, gala event, or high-energy concert, why not have it in Jump City?
