TOP   [ The Opus One Big Band ]
This great band first swung its way onto the dance floors of Britain on May 9, 1983, and it has been helping the world to party ever since! The band is nominally home-based in London, but is in much demand, and actively tours all of England, and overseas as well. Originally started to celebrate the music of the 1940s (using original music arrangements), OPUS ONE soon carved itself a niche creating unique themed events and it was not long before the band was being specifically requested by corporate giants such as BP and Glaxo for their special events. Since those early days, OPUS ONE has gone from strength to strength, branching out to cover all aspects of the music business. OPUS ONE BIG BAND has rightly been able to boast that over the years it has played at some of the most prestigious Glenn Miller 40's functions, having been featured at all of the major 50th Anniversary of World War II commemorations in the UK, including working for the American Air Force, RAF Museum, Duxford Air Museum, North Weald Aerodrome, Bletchley Park Museum, Imperial War Museum, "Stage Door Canteen" at the Royal Albert Hall, Bedford Corn Exchange - Home of the original Glenn Miller Orchestra in WWII. OPUS ONE has played at every Jitterbug Ball since the start and was commissioned to perform at the RAF's official 60th Anniversary commemoration of "The Battle of Britain". We have worked with a host of stars including Dennis Lotis, The Beverley Sisters, Joan Regan, Helen Shapiro, Humphrey Lyttelton, Max Bygrave and the famous American vocalist Maragret Whiting in many of the UK's premier venues.

OPUS ONE has become the leader in themed nostalgia evenings, especially the 40's Glenn Miller era and our famed Frank Sinatra concerts "My Kinda Sound" - a Frank Sinatra tribute - recreating the blockbusting brass and lush strings of the incredible Nelson Riddle and Billy May orchestras starring the massive sound of the 33 piece Opus One Orchestra with the superb Gary Williams. Gary is described by 'THE STAGE' as having one of the best swing voices Britain has ever produced, together with our female vocal group the 'Satin Dolls'. "My Kinda Sound" is a unique listening experience as OPUS ONE reproduce all of Sinatra's wonderful music as it would have sounded on his definitive albums such as "Songs For Swinging Lovers", "Come Fly With Me", "Only The Lonely" and his "Duets 1 & 2". Under the able baton of Ted Higgins, this is THE band for any function,- Corporate, Civic, Concert, or even a great Private Gala.

This great band was started to help prepetuate the music of the golded age of swing. They presently tour the entire area between West Palm Beach and Miami. Band personel includes members who actually played in the swing bands of the 1930-40s and some semi pro's as well as some very talented and serious amatuer musicians. We have been very well recieved wherever we have preformed and enjoyed a one year contract to play in one of the Century Villages in Florida which was renewed for a second year. Century Village is an adult community where most of the residents are big band swing fans, who really love listening and dancing to the music of their youth. The Horn-A-Plenty Swing Band features the music of the hit recordings and songs that were on the Lucky Strike Hit Parade from 1935 to 1945. How many times have you said, "The don't write songs like the used to." The Horn-A-Plenty Swing band don't write them, but we do play them. In many cases we play the top hits from the golden age of swing as recorded by the top bands of that time, Goodman, Dorsey, Shaw, James, etc. And we play them LIVE exactly as they were recorded. Our motto, "It Don't Mean A Thing If It Ain't Got that Swing." So keep listening, and keep dancing, and keep on swinging.
