   [ Brussels Jazz Orch. ]
In March 1993, this wonderful orchestra was formed by Flemish jazz musicians Frank Vagane, Marc Godfroid and Serge Plume to promote the Flemish repertoire and Flemish soloists. Now, eight years later, under their artistic director Frank Vagane, they have developed into an international leading orchestra. The BJO works closely within the Flemish jazz-scene, where they cooperate with such Flemish composers as Bert Joris, Erwin Vann, Frank Vagane and Kris Defoort, and with Belgian soloists such as Bert Joris, Philip Cathrine and Toots Thielemans. The high point in the Orchestra's history was a New York City concert (Jan. 2001) at the International Association of Jazz-Educators meeting, (Pianist Kenny Werner (USA) was their guest soloist). At the second New York concert, the BJO treated the attendees to a whole range of Flemish jazz-compositions. Now, the BJO looks to the future: they seek to continue working internationally, and they want to be the first Jazz-ensemble to enter into structural agreements with the Belgian concert organisers to present an international Jazz-artist to the Flemish public twice a year. Moreover, they very much want to keep on cooperating closely with Flemish jazz-musicians, -composers, -arrangers and -soloists. The BJO has been structurally recognized and subsidized by the Flemish Community since 1999 and it receives financial support from the National Lottery. The band is unique. They recreate the exceptionally happy music from that very special 12 year period when "Dixieland" lost popularity and before "Big Bands" arrived. The 1920s were extraordinary. Flappers hiked their skirts and bobbed their hair. Staid conservatism was out; Speakeasies and Bootleg Gin were in, and folks everywhere were dancing to the Charleston and Black Bottom. This orchestra is dedicated to the preservation of that infectiously happy music - the Jazz Age 1920s and early 1930s - sometimes called "the music that people forgot about". This band takes you on a trip back in time to the "Charleston" era, "flappers", raccoon coats, Model A's, and stars of the "Silver Screen" like Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Clara Bow and Alice Faye.

To assure "authenticity" in the performance of the music, The Blackbird Society Orchestra uses the original charts of such great bands as the Coon-Sander's Nighthawks, California Ramblers, Paul Whiteman (with a young Bing Crosby and the Rhythm Boys), McKinneys Cotton Pickers, Jelly Roll Morton, New Orleans Rhythm Kings, Emmitt Miller, Benny Goodman, The Dorsey Brothers, Frankie Trumbauer, Bix Beiderbecke, The Wolverines, Louis Armstrong, Red Nichols and many more!

Formed in Grand Rapids, MI by Marilyn and Stephen Tyree in early 1999, the Beltline Big Band is quickly becoming one of the premiere big bands touring Michigan and beyond. Greg Christensen leads this wonderful full-size (20 member) stage band that plays a wide variety of 1930's and '40's music, including swing music, foxtrots, ballads, cha chas, tangos, waltzes, and also some polkas and jazz charts. Im Programm sind Stcke aller Stilrichtungen, von Latin, Swing, Shuffle bis hin zum Beat und Rock.Von der Hauptband hat sich eine Combo mit Schlagzeug, Piano, Bass, Gitarre und 2 Trompeten abgespaltet.
