While there are Million Dollar piers in many U. S. cities, the protoype, and most famous, is the Atlantic City, N.J. pier This is the Pier in 1906 after it's completion This is the Pier in the 1930s-'40s. Notice that Mal Hallett's band was resident when this photo was taken. And, finally, this is how the 200 Million Dollar Pier looks after it's complete overhaul and updating in 2006.
Today (2008) The 2nd floor with its dramatic lighting is the couture level with high-end designer shops. The pier is billed as a luxury shopping, dining, and entertainment destination.for over 34 million visitors a year, and is only about a day's drive for a quarter of the U. S. population, The pier houses more than 90 stores, 10 restaurants, an 8 million dollar water and sound show, and a wedding chapel with an ocean backdrop.
