Subject: Non-Profit Big Band Festival
A couple of band leaders are discussing the possibility of organizing a festival/competition for non-profit big bands. There are lots of festivals for high school and college groups, but none for amateur community big bands! The idea is to either have one band host the festival in their city, or pick a hot jazz city and hold it there over a weekend. We could also have a pro musician cap off the event.

We're just starting to investigate possibilities and are looking to see what kind of interest there would be. Please e-mail Chuck if you and your band may be interested in participating and/or helping to organize.

Subject: Arranger Paul Villepigue
I am the daughter of big band jazz arranger Paul Villepigue (sometimes spelled Paul Villepique or Villapeg), who died in 1953 at age 33. I'm seeking information on the whereabouts of any of his original arrangements that he wrote for these bandleaders between 1938 and 1953: Buddy Baker, Charlie Barnet, Johnny Bothwell, Ike Carpenter, Allyn Cassel, Bob Chester, Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy Dorsey, Sonny Dunham, Benny Goodman, Horace Heidt, Harry James, Jimmy Joy, Bob Keane, Stan Kenton, Gene Krupa, Chico Marx, Vaughn Monroe, Jerry Pettit, Ben Pollack, Boyd Raeburn, Ike Ragon, Alvino Rey, Buddy Rich, Charlie Spivak, Joe Swanson. I'm also looking for information about the years 1948-1953 when he taught arranging at the Westlake College of Music in Los Angeles. His students included Bill Holman, Buddy Collette, David Bryant, Gerald Wiggins, possibly Wardell Gray. More details are on this website: Thanks!

Subject: Seeking Musicians for Rainbow Room Gig
Hello,
We are seeking talented musicians for our 1920's/30's jazz/pop orchestra which is setting up a gig at the Rainbow room in late September. If Paul Whiteman, Ray Noble, Isham Jones, Gus Arnheim are guys you know and love- then contact us.

We are also seeking authentic arrangement charts of the above mentioned orchestras (and more). Everything from ballads to fox trotts and hot dance numbers.

Please send a demo of a sample of your work in this style. The demos do not need to be slick/studio finished etc. - just something to give us an idea of your abilities. Include your contact info on the demo itself. The address is:

David Giardina

Subject: Happy Hour Club - Detroit WMBC Radio Show
I am looking for radio archive copies of a 1930s radio show done in Detroit, Michigan called "Chuck Stanley and His Happy Hour Club". This was aired on WMBC (now a part of WLBQ). Performers on the show included Danny Thomas who I believe had the Wednesday show. My grandfather, Carl Tocco, sang on that show and I am looking for a show with his voice on it. Any luck in tracking this down would be appreciated. I have already contacted the current radio station and the Museum of Radio and Television (Danny Thomas was a member) and they did not have any recordings from this particular show. Thanks!

Subject: Ruth Gaylor.
Hello. Does anyone have any information on an excellent vocalist named Ruth Gaylor that sang with the Hudson-DeLange, Mitchell Ayres, Bunny Berigan, Teddy Powell and Hal McIntyre Orchestras?

I've been a fan of her work for years, particularly the excellent sides that she recorded with Hal McIntyre & His Orchestra in the mid-40's. Miss Gaylor sang the best versions of 'I'm Making Believe', 'I Didn't Know About You' and 'My Funny Valentine' that I've ever heard in my life!

I've searched and searched on the internet for years looking for information about her but I've found nothing. Does anyone know if she's still living? Is there a website where I can find out more about her? Is there a compilation of her work that's available somewhere? Does she have an email or home address where I can write her? Please feel free to send me any information or pics of this wonderful song stylist.

When I listen to Ruth Gaylor's recordings it almost brings tears to my eyes that she is not more well known. Thanks in advance for any information that anyone can share about her.

Hello!
We are seeking New York City-based musicians for an established orchestra that specializes in 1920's-1930's jazz/pop music. We will not only be featuring the original songs of the era, but the original arrangements and playing style. This is NOT another "swing/be-bop" revival nor is it a "Frank Sinatra a la Count Basie" redux. This is the REAL DEAL. Imagine if you will a Paul Whiteman 78 come to life. That's what we're going for. Only players who truly know and love the pop music of the 1920's-30's need apply. This is a paying gig. Please contact me ASAP at monstermash@gawab.com to arrange an interview/audition. Thank you. Subject: Band
Professional band to work with me on tour, must be hard working motivated and achievers. Mostly R & B but styles and genre may vary so must be adaptive. I have an Anglo American partnership www.eckstinedanielles.com and we are looking to host a concert for troops in Iraq so this will be a consideration in choosing the right band, as will travelling and working around venues in the UK at a later date.

Subject: Biography
I'm looking for musicians dancers singers who will have worked with Billy Eckstine during the years from the 60's to the 80's as I'm writing a biography on the famous jazz singer. Also I'm in desperate need of early photos and other details on memorabilia plus obviously as many memories, tales and other anecdotes. Monies received from the book will go to musician benevolent funds to help those musicians who have fallen ill or on hard times etc. So a worthy cause.

Subject: re: Cole Porter songs in "Sleuth" movie (1972)
BULLETIN BOARD FORMATION: TIM AYRES WROTE:I've been looking for information on recordings heard in the 1972 Lawrence Olivier/Michael Caine movie "Sleuth". Three songs played by Olivier's character in his mansion on old 78s in the film are Cole Porter's "You Do Something To Me", "Just One Of Those Things", and "Anything Goes". They appear to be by the same artist, and are recordings of some vintage - with a male singer. The opening titles only credit Porter and no artist, and there are no end credits. Any help in tracking down these recordings would be greatly appreciated! Please email any info if you can. Thanks.

TIM, if you have any success tracking down these recordings please e-mail me: your address doesn't work!

Subject: vocalist seeking band
Vocalist and guitarist SEARCHING for a metal band with some experience... experience is not a must but talent is. Our influences include Pantera, Slayer, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, and many others. We are also influenced by classic rock and alternative music, but mostly look to do a death metal/thrash band. speed is not everything but most songs contain it. Guitars sound like slayer if they were death metal. vocals sound a lot like suffocation mixed with death. lows sorta remind me of corpsegrinder (cannibal corpse) and highs are well... quite original... just because i cant compare them directly to something does not mean that it isnt brutal. in cleveland OH area. reply with any questions or any interests. bill
