AUDIO  "Black Bottom", (469 kb) Rec'd by The Victor Arden and Phil Ohman Orchestra. In the mid-1920s, folks went wild dancing to this tune. This version is somewhat mixed up. For some reason or other, the band inserts the "Birth Of The Blues" - complete with vocal - into the middle of the song. Some visitors to our site may recall this song as the "Varsity Drag", the name given when it was featured in the 1947 Hollywood film "Good News", starring June Allyson and Peter Lawford

AUDIO  "Strike Up The Band ", (505 kb) Rec'd by The Victor Arden and Phil Ohman Orchestra. The song was the title song of the 1940 Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland film.

AUDIO  "Tico Tico", (353 kb). In 1917, Zequinha de Abreu composed this tune, which he named "Tico Tico no Farelo". In the 1940's, it became "Tico Tico no Fuba". Then, the Walt Disney film studios used the tune in their animated World War II film, "Saludos Amigos," with 'Donald Duck' singing the tune. You may get a good idea of the tune's popularity when you realize that well over 100 different artists went on to record the song. This is the Les Baxter Orchestra version.
