Subject: Vocal/Big Band Advice wanted
Hi, I'm a singer and I'm looking for advice on building a repertoire of vocal/big band swing charts. I'm about to start rehearsing with a big band and I don't have any charts and I don't think the band has any arrangements that include a vocalist (they've never had a vocalist before and I've never had a big band before but this is a dream come true for me!). Some of the charts I've seen are so expensive I'd have to re-mortgage the house to get enough songs together for a concert. Are the expensive charts really worth the money or are they similar to the less expensive ones? Does anybody hire out (or even loan out) charts so I can keep the costs down while we get started? I'd be very grateful for any advice you can give. Thanks, Jim.
