Subject:: Big band charts
If you have untidy, handwritten sheet music that you are finding difficult
to read, I can produce a professional, printed score and parts. Other
specialities include: MISSING PARTS: If you have missing parts to your
chart, I can recreate new ones by analysing the surrounding harmony and/or
a recording. CHANGE KEY:If a singer or lead trumpet can't quite reach the
top notes, I can change the music to a more suitable key. I can present the
parts with your own preferences and specifications such as how many staves
per page, bars per stave etc. The price is very reasonable and expect a
return of no more than a week for your score. Contact me for any questions
My website has also 40-50 big band/pop charts for sale.

Subject:: New big band needs charts can you help?
Can the big band or Jazz community help. I am looking to build the
repertoire of the new big band I play with, our influences are Maynard
Ferguson, Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, Don Ellis etc.We are looking to bolster
our very limited repertoire to help us get a few more gigs and help move
the band forward.I'll be honest up front we have very little financial
support at present so ideally free or very low prices would be greatly
appreciated and get the band out performing asap.As the band use
mellophoniums (ala) Kenton we have to rescore most of our arrangements to
suit the bands style, so we don't mind scores without parts pages etc, or
incomplete arrangements or scores (one of the guy's likes doing
"jigsaws").
If anybody could help then could they please contact myself asap. Many
thanks

Subject: HAS ANYONE COME ACROSS MY DAD'S MISSING BIG BAND CHARTS.
My late father was Big Band Leader and Trombone Player Eddie Curtis. Sadly, after dad died in 1993, my mother asked a former band member, saxophonist Roger Ayres from Tring in Hertfordshire, to find a worthy home for dad's 400+ Big Band arrangements. It was conditional that the charts went to a school or youth band, were not sold commercially, or the library be broken up. Roger Ayres told my mother he had a school that wanted them, but they had little money to offer. She allowed Roger Ayres to purchase the library on behalf of the school? at around just £1 per arrangement. She also included dads set of custom made music stands. Pleased that the library would benefit youth, she was happy, she had no reason to doubt the word of Roger Ayres! A year or so ago, I decided to re-form dad's band, with my mother's consent I contacted Roger Ayres to see if I would be able to get access to dads old charts.
He was surprisingly evasive and non cooperative, refusing to reveal the name of the school that had them! We became suspicious and started making enquiries, through local newspaper publicity we have since found around half the titles, without any help from Roger Ayres who refuses to comment to anyone, however, many of the arrangements are either photocopies or incomplete, made up of spares from the original sets. They are at a school, but around 200 or so are still missing, the current staff at the school do not know how the arrangements originally came to be there. They have however been wonderful to me and have given me full access to what they do have. Some of the missing arrangements were in my dad's own writing, some commercial, some handwritten photocopies by unknown arrangers, but mostly well known titles, a very mixed bag! Some are of extreme sentimental value, for example, 'Debbie's Waltz' written especially for me and completely original. I would dearly like to find them, just to know what happened to them would be a relief
in itself. Someone out there must know where they are and who has them. Have you played them at any time? Have they been mentioned to you? Have you seen them advertised? Some had his name on them, either hand written or as an ink stamp, many had small rectangular yellow stickers with the library numbering handwritten. Some had fluorescent orange stickers with the numbers handwritten on them. It is possible they are in Bucks or Herts or nearby. If you have any thoughts at all, please contact me, I will be most grateful for any leads to finding them. eMail: Thank You. Debbie Curtis.

Subject: Big Band Charts
Greetings Murray,
I am a drummer, arranger and Musical Director of Big Bands here in the "old
country" and have built up a library of big band arrangements that consist
of some of my originals but are mainly of transcriptions I have "lifted"
off records. I suppose they mainly reflect my own tastes in music and
contain mostly swing standards from the thirties, forties, and fifties, from
Kenton, James, Dorsey, Miller, Rich, Goodman, Krupa, and Herman, etc., and
some vocals.
If anyone wants to correspond on the subject of buying or trading, I will be
pleased to hear from them. I will also write arrangements to order.

Subject : Sign of the Swinging Cymbal
Hi I caught your Big Band pages and thought you might like to know more
about Brian Fahey U.K. who you may know wrote the Sign of the Swinging
Cymbal - not a high point of his career as a Big Band composer / arranger,
but world famous nevertheless.
Over the last four years he has written a collection of new original compositions for Big Band in an easy to read easy to play style. It has been
acclaimed by those in the know and all the scores sound fantastic.
These area available very reasonably directly from Brian Fahey on a non profit basis, he has written these pieces in his retirement in order to keep
the Big Band scene alive. These scores are beautifully written in his own immaculate hand and are aimed at Youth / Jazz Big Band rehearsal orchestras.
If you are interested in knowing more about the collection, it would be a shame to miss out on this unique opportunity from the Master British Big
Band arranger of his generation - Ella used to Insist he MD for her when ever she came to England -
please email me - I am his son and he's not on the net yet
Any of the BANDS can write to him directly at:
