Tenor Sax. b. Vancouver d.
Stan's orchestra played locally in the Vancouver area. He formed his first band for a booking in Vancouver's Alma Academy. The band later played the Hotel Vancouver's Spanish Grill Room and then was booked into the Alexandra Ballroom.
In 1939, Dal Richards took over the band and took it into the Hotel Vancouver's famous Panarama Roof. In 1940, Stan became a sideman in the Mart Kenney Orchestra. In 1941 to 1944, Stan once again started his own orchestra, this time concentrating his activities in the Toronto area playing such rooms as the Casa Loma, Brant Inn at Burlington, Ont., Gatineau Country Club, and the Royal York Hotel.
Finding good musicians during the war was a difficult problem that Dal shared with all the bands. So he again disbanded. He did give it one more try. In 1945, he organized a unique all-reeds orchestra, which was
widely acclaimed but, alas, also short lived.
